Tsaile, Arizona
Milton Bluehouse, Jr., is a citizen of the Navajo Nation and is the former Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of the President and Vice President of the Navajo Nation. Currently, Mr. Bluehouse is a professor in the School of Business and Social Science at Dine College. Mr. Bluehouse is the owner of Tribal Consultation Resources, LLC, an inter-governmental relations company focused on state, federal and tribal relations, communications, and consultation services. Mr. Bluehouse also managed a multi-cultural environmental mediation network focused on Native American resources; provided tribal intergovernmental training to federal agencies, corporations, and non-governmental organizations; and also served as the Environmental Justice State Coordinator and Tribal Liaison for the New Mexico Environment Department. Throughout his career, Mr. Bluehouse has focused on the complexities of the social determinants of health for Native peoples, particularly where the intersection of Indian law and policy meets on-the-ground realities related to healthcare accessibility, the environment, public safety, economic development, and educational attainment within Native American communities. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Bluehouse worked closely with Navajo Nation leadership and public health experts, federal and state emergency management contingents, and with Navajo communities to support the coordinated public health response. "Nothing brought home the devastating impacts of healthcare, economic, infrastructure, and resources disparities relative to Native America's social determinants of health than the COVID-19 pandemic. The Coronavirus and its variants is the perfect storm highlighting the decades long neglect by governments. The result is the disproportionate and tragic outcomes for thousands of Native Americans that could have been avoided with beyond-adequate funding and policy and program development."
